A Secure Guard Fit Is a Two-Part Check
A guard comb can look attached without proving that you have assembled the right system. A reliable check has two parts: confirm that the guard is intended for that base blade, then confirm that this particular attachment is seated and secure.
Keeping those questions separate prevents a familiar mistake: using a successful-looking fit as evidence of compatibility.
Start with the base blade, not just the clipper name
The VUNRO Eight Piece Universal Guard Comb Set is specified for compatible standard-width A5 and D-Series #10, #15 and #30 base blades. The packaging identifies both systems. It is not an A5-only set.
“Universal” does not mean every blade, every width or every trimmer. Do not extend that specification to a wide blade or to the VUNRO PRO trimmer's separate attachment system. A familiar colour, similar tooth spacing or apparently convenient fit is not a substitute for the correct product reference.
Then check the actual attachment
With the clipper switched off and away from the dog, follow the attachment instructions for your blade and guard. Confirm that the required contact and retention points are engaged, the guard is square on the blade and nothing prevents it from seating fully.
Look for trapped hair, damage, distortion or a retention part that no longer behaves normally. If the fit is loose, uneven or uncertain, take the combination out of use until the cause is resolved. Do not bend or improvise the attachment to make an unconfirmed combination fit.
There are two useful records here. “This guard is specified for this base blade” is the compatibility record. “This guard was inspected and seated correctly today” is the condition check. Neither replaces the other.
Keep the two numbers distinct
The base blade's number and the guard's length describe different parts of the setup. Record both. “13 mm guard on the compatible #10 base” gives the next groomer substantially more information than “number one”.
The Universal Set's listed guard lengths run from 3 mm to 25 mm, with eight choices: 3, 6, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22 and 25 mm. These are the attachment labels. The finished appearance still depends on preparation, coat behaviour and technique; a label is not a promise that every fibre will measure exactly that length after the groom.
Make mixed-system storage unambiguous

A team can use the same length language while working with different systems. That makes labels such as “13 mm, Universal A5/D-Series” particularly useful at the storage point. Keep the original instructions accessible rather than relying on memory after a busy handover.
Buy around the combinations you actually use
For a station working with both systems, the Universal Set can cover its specified A5 and D-Series base-blade applications without requiring two identical sets simply because the clipper system changes.
Pair the guard set with the appropriate base blades for each actual clipper: for example, the VUNRO #10 A5 Blade or the VUNRO #10 Ceramic D-Series Blade. Those blades belong to different mounting systems; they are not interchangeable just because the same specified guard can be used over them.
Keep the base blades you regularly need available for your maintenance rotation, and replace an individual damaged guard or assembly according to its condition. A useful kit is a set of confirmed combinations, not a collection of parts that nearly fit.
